43 Million Children Exposed To Tobacco Smoke

TEMPO interactive Jakarta : Head of Indonesia Parliamentary forum of population Development Aisyah Hamid Baidlowi has revealed that around 97 million  Indonesian Inhabitants are routinely exposed to tobacco smoke at their homes.

Of this said amount, 43 million are children. The prevalence of smoking in Indonesia, she said was ranked fifth among countries in the world with the top consumption rate of tobacco, which has rapidly increased since 1970’s

Especially among young people above 15 years of age, the prevalence has increased from 26,9 percent in 1995 to 31,5 percent in 2001 and 34,5 percent in 2004.
