• Function / Purpose : to help us do a task or make something. They can be a set of instructions or directions.
• Generic structure :

1.      Goal : the final purpose of doing the instructions

2.      materials : ingredient, utensils, equipment to do the instructions

3.      Steps : a set of instructions to achieve the final purpose

·         Language Features :

1.      use of imperatives (cut, don’t mix)

2.      use of actions verbs (turn, put, mix)

3.      use of connectives (first, then, finally)

4.      use of adverbial phrases (for five minutes, 2 centimeters from the top)

·         Note : procedural text sometimes only consists of goal and steps

How to Make Simple Fried Rice

Materials : 2 tablespoons of peanut oil

      3-4 cups of cold cooked rice

1 tablespoon of light soy sauce

Salt

½ cup of chopped cooked meat, cooked prawns or beaten eggs (optional)

Steps : 1. Heat a pan

            2. add oil

3. Add rice and stir until grains are separate and lightly colored

4.sprinkle with soy sauce and a little salt to taste

5.Add shallots and any chopped cooked meat or shelled prawns, or if desired

6. 6 beaten eggs

7. Fry until eggs are cooked or meat heated through
